According to the latest data from the Mortgage Bankers Association, the total borrowing and lending in the U.S. commercial and multifamily mortgage sector is anticipated to reach $576 billion in 2024. This reflects a 29 percent increase compared to the estimated total of $444 billion in 2023. Specifically, multifamily lending is projected to increase to $339 billion this year, representing a 25 percent growth from the previous year’s estimate of $271 billion. Looking ahead, the MBA expects the total commercial real estate lending to rise to $717 billion in the coming year, with multifamily lending accounting for $404 billion of that total.
